This was the scenario with lithium-ion batteries, where we recognised the fire hazards and associated dangers linked to battery-powered equipment.
Lithium-ion batteries have become an indispensable part of our society. They are found in many devices, tools, e-bikes, etc. because the powerful energy storage devices are particularly practical and efficient. At the same time, they bring with them fire loads and high fire risks due to their high energy density and can thus cause great damage. The danger increases as soon as the batteries are charged unattended, for example outside working hours.
Using our 30 years of experience in the sector, we have manufactured a cabinet range that can not only passively store but also actively charge batteries in a secure and safe environment. With our traditional cabinets for storing flammable liquids, the fire resistance must offer protection from the outside in.
However, with lithium batteries, the fire will start within the battery, hence the fire resistance must offer protection from the inside to the outside, thus preventing the fire from spreading. With the ION-Line range of cabinets having certification to EN14470-1 and EN1363-1, we have achieved the desired 90-minute fire resistance from the outside-in and the inside-out. This has resulted in a range of cabinets that can be confidently used anywhere where the safe storage and charging of new and used batteries is desired.
